California stoner metal titans High On Fire have begun work on a new album, tentatively slated for a Winter 2015 release. The trio is writing in sessions in New Orleans and Oakland, preparing the follow-up to 2012’s De Vermis Mysteriis.

"Des, Jeff and I are really getting creative and writing a hell of a new record," states guitarist/vocalist Matt Pike. "It's a crazy project and I can't really explain what it's all about just yet, but we've been writing a lot of crazy intense material that will up the ante, and bring things to another level."

"Everyone is asking what the new High on Fire music sounds like," adds drummer Des Kensel. "Chew on some mescaline and listen to side B of Sabbath's Master of Reality backwards at 78 RPM and it might give you an idea."

Swiss folk metal giants Eluveitie have announced plans for a North American tour later this year with fellow folk metallers Týr and Metsatöll. For those of you who enjoyed (or plan to enjoy) this year's Paganfest America lineup, here's another chance to catch some of Europe's top acts in this up and coming subgenre. All three bands have cranked out an impressive catalog over that past ten years or so and Eluveitie will have also a new album out in August, so there's something else to look forward to. Polish up your finest chain mail and carve out a new drinking horn, because this tour is going to get rowdy.

Portland stoner rockers Black Pussy are scheduled to hit the road this weekend as they kick off a massive tour that will see them criss-cross North America over the next two months. I saw these dudes open for Vista Chino (ex-Kyuss) last October in Columbus and I've been waiting for the new album and tour ever since. And check this out...Black Pussy will make not one, but two stops in the Cincinnati area on the upcoming tour. The tour stops at The Mad Frog on June 5 with Gypsyhawk in tow and returns to the area two weeks later on June 19 at The Southgate House Revival with Mothership. Don't miss out this tour. These dudes bring the 70's sleaze metal vibe and have the tunes and vintage amps to back it all up. The other bands are pretty fucking badass, too. This is just a killer tour all around. Looking forward to this one!

Black Breath Announce US Tour Dates...

5/12/2014

Picture
Seattle death metal thrashers Black Breath have announced a short follow-up tour to their upcoming performances at Maryland Death Fest. I just recently discovered these dudes, but I'm hooked on the 2012 album, Life Sentence. For those unfamiliar, I'd describe these guys as a throwback to early Swedish death metal with some thrash influence and shouted vocals instead of the super-deep growling that ruins a lot of death metal for me. Apparently the guys are working on a 3rd album, which might be released yet in 2014. I'm looking forward to hearing more from this band. Check out the back catalogue and if you're lucky enough to be heading to Maryland Death Fest or near a city on the subsequent tour, don't miss these guys.

5/27/2014 Sinclair - Cambridge, MA w/ Mutilation Rites, Yautja, Theories

5/28/2014 Santos Party House - New York, NY w/ Mutilation Rites, Yautja, Theories

5/29/2014 Foundry - Cleveland, OH w/ Mutilation Rites, Yautja, Theories

Orange Goblin Re-Issue; New Album & US Tour This Fall

5/8/2014

Picture
Candlelight Records will re-release Orange Goblin's 2007 album Healing Through Fire on June 10. The re-release will include a couple of live bonus tracks from a 2007 BBC performance. The album was never physically released in the States back when it came out, so this is good news for completists like myself who prefer to fill in their favorite bands' entire catalogue on the old record (CD) shelf.

In addition, the Orange Goblin crew is currently working on the follow-up to 2012's A Eulogy For The Damned. According to the latest reports, bass guitar and drums have been tracked, with guitars and vocals expected to be completed by May 17. The final mix is then anticipated by early June, with the still untitled album slated for release in October. Orange Goblin also plans to do another club tour of the U.S. later this year, which is killer news since I inexplicably missed them last year in Dayton.  The Goblin will also be supporting Saint Vitus on their 35th Anniversary Tour in Europe this Fall.
