Bad Guys - Bad Guynaecology (Riot Season)

Just kidding. This album kind of sucks...intentionally, I think. I just put this here so that those of you reading at work would have to have that picture up on your screen for a few minutes.

Negative Self - Negative Self (High Roller)

Normally if you showed me that album cover and told me this that is Crossover/ Hardcore, I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole. As it turns out, this is one of my favorite releases of the year so far. The Swedish trio blends thrash metal with insane amounts of melody on their debut album. The vocals are incredibly smooth and the riffs kick so much ass. Throw in some nice backup gang vocal chants and you have a nice throwback to the skate/thrash heyday.

The Slow Death - Ark (Chaos)

The week's best Doom release comes all the way from Australia. On their third album, the Aussie quintet churns out Pallbearer-style melodic doom with a mix of male and female vocals. I'm not a huge fan of the subterranean male vocals, mainly because they're buried in the mix, but the female vocals are a nice compliment to the overall sound. Fans of the aforementioned Pallbearer and the early 90's Peaceville sound should enjoy this one.
