Red Moon Architect - Fall (Playground) The Finnish quintet return with their second album, shifting between melodic death metal and doom. The male vocals are incredibly viscious, while the female vocals provide a nice melodic counterpoint. The riffs are mainly in the slow, plodding doom vein, with atmospheric keyboards weaving in and out of the maelstrom. When they shift into full-on death metal mode, it's pretty damn impressive. | Sacral Rage - Illusions in Infinite Void (Cruz Del Sur) I don't usually get into speed/thrash metal releases because they tend to sound tired and/or goofy. That's not the case with the debut album from this Greek quartet. These guys are throwing back to the thrash heyday without sounding like a tribute act. The riffs kept my head banging throughout and the high-register vocals are killer. If you're looking some precision guitar work this week, here you go. |
